4th of July Celebrations in the Austin Area!

If you are looking for all the celebrations this weekend in case you are worried about rain, then I have a great map for you to look at. This map will show you some of the celebrations that are going on around the Austin area. Of course you cannot shoot off fireworks in the rain, but my guess is at least one of these shows is still going to happen and I will keep this up as long as people need it. Some of them are free but a lot of them will charge you a small entrance fee. But as we all know, if you don’t feel like paying, you can just drive down the road and watch from there. Next year I might map out great areas to watch from a higher point or something.

New Zealand Ties Slovakia in World Cup Match!

Winston hero may be in trouble with his coach for his yellow card celebration but in New Zealand tonight, he is a hero. He scored a late goal (90th minute)to tie the soccer match between New Zealand and Slovakia. “It probably was the most important goal of my life,” Reid said Tuesday after scoring in second-half injury time to lift New Zealand into a 1-1 draw with Slovakia in Group F. “I didn’t see the ball until late. I knew that if I got it on-target and didn’t hit it too hard, I could just guide it in.” In my opinion this celebration wasn’t the smartest thing he could have done because if he gets another one in the future he is going to miss a game in this world cup. Considering is a defensive style player, that does not bode well for the lack of depth for the Kiwi’s. This makes them all tied up in Group F standings. Who knows what will happen for the Kiwi’s as they move forward in the future.

Keyboard Typing Game

Be careful – you could easily kill your keyboard trying to play this game. Basically see how fast you can pound your keyboard before the time runs out. This game is pretty cool if you are looking to waste a few minutes of time and keep your brain functioning. I personally enjoy playing this a couple of times per day. It can really be a stress revealing game. Basically you just click the start button and then type as fast as you can. You can type almost anything you want…just be careful not to hit any buttons like the tab button or some others because it will click out of box and not count whatever you are typing. The game will actually stop though. My hands started to hurt after a while (because I have bad hands) but I still play it every once in a while. I still have some top scores up there. See if you can beat “ChucklesMagee” and “tiyoodotcom.”

Jet Skis- A basic buyers guide.

When it comes to jet skis there is a limited choice of manufacturers. The big names are Yamaha and Sea Doo. Some other makers are Kawasaki, Honda and Arctic Cat. Hondas are really good machines and all come with supercharged four stroke engines. They are very fast and look great, however they tend to have one fatal flaw. Hondas tend to overheat and seize up. If you run them too hard and too long they will overheat guaranteed. Kawasaki makes a good machine too but they are jot nearly as reliable and have a lot of maintenance issues. Also, they do not have nearly as good of a resale value. If you want a good jet ski I would undoubtedly recommend sea doo or Yamaha. Sea doo sells a very large variety of machines ranging in size, power, comfort and features. All sea doo jet skis are four stroke engines and they come in multiple power outputs. You can get 130 horse power, 150hp, 215hp, 255hp and finally 260hp. I will say that 130 hp is plenty for a jet ski. When the boat only weight 800 lbs its safe to say that 130 hp will get you up to 50 miles per hour at least and when on the water, that’s a LOT! The major advantage of increasing your power after about 150 is just how fast you get up to speed and not so much how fast they go. The coast guard is supposed to limit the machines to 65 mph but they don’t seem to… Sea doo just launched a new line of performance jet skis that have some new features such as a suspension under the seat and a breaking system. These are really nice but not worth the risk you get with buying a sea doo. They tend to have maintenance issues and are not known to be the most reliable boats on the water. However, they are slightly cheaper than Yamaha and they look great on the water. As long as you are not in salt water and don’t beat the shit out of them they are great machines that are worth the investment. Finally, the best jet skis on the marked are undoubtedly Yamaha. Yamaha makes a few different sizes of engines starting with the FX line with a 150 hp engine and they are the economy machines. They perform great and they are affordable. Yamaha has the best resale value and will last forever. The next step up from the FX line is the HO or High Output line. It’s a much larger engine and puts out about 215 hp. These are big powerful and fast. They look great and have lots of features such as a remote to limit power, watertight storage compartments and easily readable dials. Finally, the biggest model Yamaha makes is their SHO (Super High Output) line which is just a monster. It’s the same engine block as the HO but it’s got a supercharger on it and puts out about 255 hp. Although sea doo makes a 260 hp machine, the SHO Yamaha is the fastest Jet Ski out there. It hits 50 in less than 3 seconds and will scare the crap out of anyone on them. Admittedly, they are dangerous with that much power but damn are they fun. Yamaha is undoubtedly my recommendation to anyone out there looking for a new jet ski, but everyone has their own preference. After being around jet skis for my entire life however, I have to say that Yamaha will outperform and outlast anything on the water.

I have managed to discover something that would shock you. People do not know how to drive boats. When it comes to boats, the majority of people think its just like getting in a car. I have been working at a boat dealership that rents boats and I am in charge of rentals. I would ideally like to take a fishing rod and snap it in half. Every time someone comes up and asks a truly dumb question I would then take my fishing rod and smack them in the face. I want to update everyone on the basics of boat driving and handling. First off… Boats do not have pedals, boats do not have breaks and finally boats do not drive like cars. Boats are driven by a throttle which is usually just to the right of the steering wheel and looks like an extended handle. When the throttle is straight up its in neutral and there is no movement. The throttle has to be pushed forward and that puts the engine in gear and starts to move it forward. The farther you push the faster you go. Similarly if you push it backwards it will engage reverse and move backwards. I will say that some boats such as bass boats and drag boats do occasionally have pedals, so there is an exception to the rule. However, in general that’s the basic layout of boat driving. Its stunning to me how often I get asked “where is the gas pedal?” I have to resist the urge to grab a fishing pole and leave a nice big red welt on their face as a mark of their dumb questions. However, my purpose for writing this post was to generally cover the one thing about boats people seem to not understand. I will be posting much more about boats and jet skis over the upcoming weeks so get ready for it.

Final Fantasy 13- A quick review worth the read.

Final Fantasy 13. The long awaited follow up to the never-ending series that is Final Fantasy. I only got into the FF craze when 10 came out and was so “amazing” and don’t get me wrong, I did like it. I have never gotten into the old ones and doubt I ever will. I know they are great games with epic stories and blah blah blah. I’ve heard it all. Regardless, I love this new one. Final Fantasy 13 is, both graphics and story related, the best yet. Sadly they sold out and sent their game to Microsoft but I suppose you can’t blame Square Enix for wanting to make a shit load more money. The story is very slow at the beginning and takes a few hours (at least 15) to really get into the game and start to enjoy it. The first few hours are nothing but movie quality scenes and pushing X a lot. To me the game is just one 60+ hour movie that costs 60 bucks and you get to interact with it. The bosses are mildly hard at times but if you die and have to retry the game makes the fight a little easier so if you cannot beat it then you probably don’t deserve to ever play a video game. Difficulty wise, all you have to do is just know some basics and know how to not play like an infant. The animation however is the true pinnacle of this game and its hopeful success. The cinema scenes are truly AMAZING. They are animated and it’s obvious with the aliens and magic but regardless it is incredibly detailed and entertaining. The gameplay graphics are a step down obviously but still they are pretty amazing. Sadly they made this new one WAY too linear. Until about 40 hours in, you only get one path to go along. There is no teleporting between areas and going back to redo something you messed up. It is all just running along a preset path and fighting enemies that block your path. Regardless its my favorite one so far and is worth the purchase, if you like that style of RPG. It’s a pretty entertaining game and lives up to the epic saga that is Final Fantasy.

South Park- The best worst show EVER!

South Park has been the best cartoon in my eyes for the past ten years easy. However, with this new season that started I have to say, they are starting to slip. I like family guy but damn is it annoying. South Park is starting to get the same way sadly. There will always be the classic episodes like Scott Tennerman must die and the cartoon wars series, but the damn new episodes have fallen short. I really hope that Matt and Trey get their act together and start coming up with truly amazing episodes again. I couldn’t care less about the stupid ass Tiger Woods issue and of course the writers create this restarted episode about it. I like the occasional joke they make here and there but the issues they choose are truly pathetic and ill-conceived. Regardless I like the show and don’t plan on giving it up anytime soon but I truly hope these yahoos figure out what the hell they are doing and get back to the shows roots. THE REASON IT BECAME SO POPULAR.

Getting them into the best college preparatory academy possible. Here we take a look at the costs for some of the best college prep schools in the country. They are obviously all in the Northeast (what can I say, those Yankees sure do know how to educate). These are your best chances into getting into the Ivy League though. All prices are for boarding and tuition costs. These do not include any money spent during the year while away from home:

Don’t let the prices get you down though because a lot of schools will give out scholarships to those who have parents that make less than 75k a year. Better get those applications in quick though because most of the above mentioned schools only have a few slots open to “scholarship kids.” You better have some damn good test scores too because their pace is fast…very fast. If your kid isnt prepared the school and students will eat him/her alive.

I’m not really sure who will support this thread but honestly I don’t care! I am someone with large ambitions and dreams who doesn’t have the capital to back said dreams. GO FIGURE… So I will admit that in keeping true to my male desires, the first time I saw drifting, I was sold. I would love to go out and burn through a set of tires while putting up walls of smoke in a light decked out ricer. The thought of carrying a car sideways around turns is one of my favorites. However, the price tag involved in this potential Mecca of a sport is much more that I can foot. Therefore, I get some of my fix when out golfing and I get the chance to take my rented and underpowered golf cart and slide it around on wet grass. Sadly I saw a kid doing that in his power wheels. However after a few hours at the computer I managed to find a possible replacement for my desires. RC drifting… aka. The “Po-Man’s Drift.” Think about it. If it costs at least 400 bucks for a new set of tires then there is no way I could go out there and burn through rubber all day once a month. However, if I can go out and put that same 400 bucks into a little gas powered car that will drift and do everything those big fancy cars do for that same price, then why the hell not! I’ll throw a few videos up to show you how much fun this looks to me. Again, I am a nerd or whatever you want to call it, but I do know how to have some fun doing what I want to do on a budget. So if you are as into drifting as I am, but cannot go out and drop a few grand into the hobby then take a few hours and look into this potential replacement. What’s the harm?
